Jasper: Rocky Mountain elevated
The Sawridge Inn has a very pleasant bar, and that is where we are sitting, rather shattered after completely over-doing it on our walk to Pyramid Lake. Jasper is a tiny sliver of buildings in the middle of the wilderness: walk five minutes out of town and you might have driven fifty.
We didn’t go hunting bear – that’s something that we are leaving for tonight when we go on a wildlife tour – but it was lovely to walk in the woodlands, even if ten kilometres was a bit much for Paula’s feet. We saw squirrels but not much else,’but the mountains and the two lakes more than made up for it.
We have not done much this Canada Day, but we will hang around for the fireworks after dark. That’s after eleven pm!
Tomorrow we take the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise. More glaciers.
