It is quite fantastic that our interest in the Bard never dies! This one is worth following up to see if I can lay my hands on a copy of the recording of ‘original Shakespeare’. Like Bach on original instruments, such enterprises are often speculative, emphasise the dynamism of meaning-making, but provide us with added insights into the composer’s intentions. For Shakespeare’s works, it is a valuable reminder that drama is often driven as much by fashion and culture as it is by some desire for authenticity!
