Australia has ranked behind New Zealand, Ireland and 10 other countries in a global education index. Finland tops the list, followed by South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.

While the report does state the bleeding obvious, the detail is worth noting: if the Australian standard is falling now, it is because of under-investment maybe a decade ago. What will happen as a result of our chronic cost-cutting over the last ten years?
