ALMOST 70 former child migrants have launched a class action against the state and federal governments for failing to protect them from alleged physical, mental and sexual abuse during their time at the notorious Fairbridge Farm School at Molong.
The group are seeking compensation for chronic psychiatric or physical injuries said to have been caused by their treatment at the school, which was run by the British-based Fairbridge Foundation between 1938 and 1974.
The former residents, some of whom were as young as four when they were sent from England, were kept in primitive barracks, poorly fed, exploited for their labour, cruelly punished, sexually assaulted and given substandard education, leaving many illiterate, they claim.
