Mont St Michel
After yesterday, I don’t feel like writing an essay. The drive to the Mont was longer than expected, so I’m a bit tired.
It was, of course, awe-inspiring. It’s pointless trying to paint word pictures: the photos will do it so much better.
It has been below zero all day, with the sides of roads white and thick with hoar frost. In the morning, we went to Pegasus Bridge and found the original bridge preserved in a park. The drive to the Mont took us through the heart of Lower Normandy and we finally saw Bayeux’s cathedral on the way back. It is partly dedicated to Thomas a Becket.
I have discovered two joys: Normandy oysters and cider. What twins!
Tomorrow to Amiens for a pilgrimage.
Enjoying the travel diaries! My brother in law is from Dieppe north of Caen on the coast. If you get there his mother would love to have a visitor from Australia, she spent a few days with us last Christmas and is a lovely lady. Email me if you want her address. Keep warm its in the mid 30s here!! Mark
