The Trip to Amiens
It’s the fifth of January and we have made our way to Amiens through a rare Parisian snowfall. Normandy was cold enough to leave frost on the road side through the day, but as we travelled in comfort up the Loire
Valley, snow started appearing on the ground and then we started to get snow showers. By the time we arrived in Gare St Lazare, it was snowing hard and it became heavier as we travelled to Amiens.
We arrived at about 1.30 and booked straight in to our hotel, as the Holiday Inn was right at the station. Our usual explore turned up some good food and the Cathedral, which was a marvel.
It was getting colder and we needed resuscitation, so I’m proud to present photographic evidence of Paula’s acceptance of hot drinks as necessary for life, especially when the temperature is below zero.
The forecast tonight is not good and makes us worry about our trip tomorrow to Flanders and Ypres. The airports in Paris are closed and roads cut in the Ardennes: it’s the coldest night in France for years.
