Great Ocean Walk: along the beaches.
Our third day of walking (April 15) took us from the lighthouse and along Station Beach, before cutting inland to cross the Airds River, then walking through the dunes and along the scarp to Castle Cove Lookout. We stayed for three nights in an amazing B and B above Melanesia Beach: the first night we were picked up from the car park and taken to the house, on Hiders Access. It was close to the Johanna Falls Reserve and the wild life was amazing, including a number of gang-gangs which were quite unafraid.
The next day (Day 4, April 16) saw us dropped back at Castle Cove car park for a walk back into our B and B, along Johanna Beach and the Old Coach Road. This was a relatively easy day; but Day 5 was much tougher as we walked away from the coast, which is closed while the local Aboriginal groups work to preserve traditional sites.
